As the second book in the Broken Empire series, King of Thorns is a perfect continuation of the previous Prince of Thorns. It continues upon the story of Jorg Ancrath in his struggles as a king against the rivaling Prince of Arrow. Similar to the previous book, the story line is divided into two parts; one in the present, one four years in the past. The present story line describes a sole fight against the Prince of Arrow in a very detailed manner with all of Jorg's tricks while the past story line describes Jorg's journey during the first year of his kingship. The past helps show how Jorg was able to par off with the Prince of Arrow and why the present events take place, but by getting it in pieces, the reader can work to figure out how and why events happen.

This series continues to please me the more I read it. Unlike the first book, I had no troubles getting into and reading King of Thorns. It can be hard to follow at times, but I found that rereading the section and continuing on will clear everything up in the end. My favorite part of King of Thorns is how everything is building on each other and building up to this massive event and the tension just releases leading you into the next book. I cannot wait to read Emperor of Thorns, the last book in this trilogy.
